ASCII Art is art created from the American Standard Code for Information Interchange character-encoding scheme, essentially giving you the basic characters on the keyboard plus a few more, for 128 in total. Although ASCII is an acronym, and therefore should be written with all uppercase letters, it's acceptable to just call it ascii.

ASCII art is generally used as copypasta on 4chan, especially if it's a meme based ASCII that's used in place of an uploaded image.

Some well known examples of ASCII art are the facepalm ascii of Captain Picard, and the Admiral Ackbar ascii.
