MPlayer

Note that even though the controls are on my computer screen where I am editing the lurkmore wiki, the video itself is actually being displayed on a 32" LCD TV to my right. Thanks, NVIDIA.

MPlayer is an excellent video player for Linux that apparently has Windows and Mac versions available too. It supports a wide range of video formats and offers full gui control including extensive options and a graphic equalizer. Still requires the Restricted-Extras. Available through Ubuntu repositories or the link provided
